Floodplain Management

Jackson County is home to multiple watersheds, draining into the Applegate Basin, the Bear Creek Basin and the Upper/Middle Rogue River Basin. Served by many smaller rivers, streams and creeks, the region is subject to periodic riverine and flash flooding. Sudden heavy rains and/or snowmelt result in our waterways exceeding capacity, flooding properties. The information provided here aims to help inform people on how to prepare, protect and develop within the Jackson County community against these flood risks.

As a participant in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Floodplain Insurance Program (NFIP),  Jackson county applies additional regulations  to development  in the Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA). Through participation, Jackson County maintains a rating of 7 in FEMA’s Community Rating System, earning a 15% discount on flood insurance for the community.
