The primary goal of the Jackson County Victim Assistance Program is to provide support, information and resources to victims of both adult and juvenile crimes committed in Jackson County. The program provides advocacy services to crime victims and assists them as they move through the criminal justice system.
Victim Advocates provide the following services:
- Inform crime victims of their rights
- Escort victims to court hearings
- Notify victims of the times and dates of court hearings
- Ensure victims have a voice during the criminal justice process
- Collect information and order restitution for crime victims
- Provide education and information about the criminal justice process
- Refer victims to other agencies and programs for additional services
A crime victim is defined under Oregon law as a person who has suffered financial, social, psychological or physical harm as a result of a crime and, in the case of a homicide, is a member of the immediate family of the victim. The Jackson County Victims Assistance Program is committed to assisting these individuals and helping them recover in the aftermath of crime.
