GreenwayVolunteersVolunteering on the Bear Creek GreenwayAre you a frequent user of the Bear Creek Greenway? Would you like a fun and active way to give back to the community? Becoming a volunteer on the Greenway is a great way to spend some time on the trail while helping give back to the community.

There are multiple volunteer opportunities on the Greenway:

Greenway Hosts
Greenway Hosts are the eyes, ears, and face of the trail, providing feedback to park staff about trail activity and maintenance concerns, and providing information and assistance to trail users.

Adopt-a-Greenway Sponsors
Adopt-a-Greenway Sponsors are groups, organizations, or businesses who take ownership on sections of the Greenway. They perform minor routine trail maintenance such as cleaning off small debris or picking up trash and looking for more serious hazards or maintenance to report back. For more details see the Adopt-a-Greenway FAQ.

General Volunteers
Fire restoration and cleanups Creekside and near the Greenway have begun. We need volunteers for various activities in the future. Please email bcgvolunteer@jacksoncountyor.gov for more information.

There are organized cleanups on the Greenway frequently. General Volunteers can participate on an ad hoc basis.

There are many different projects that arise throughout the year.  Here are examples of typical projects:

  • Litter pick-up
  • Graffiti removal
  • Native tree and shrub removal
  • Landscape maintenance
  • Remove invasive plants
  • Rake leaves
  • Replace signs
  • Other projects as approved
If you would like to receive information about cleanup efforts, please email bcgvolunteer@jacksoncountyor.gov and you will be emailed cleanup dates, times, and meeting locations.

Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism (SOLVE) sponsors cleanup events each Spring (Earth Day) and Fall (National Public Lands Day) which include both trash clean up and blackberry removal. The spring event is scheduled for April 20, 2024. More information can be found at Bear Creek Stewards. There are nine check-in stations along the Greenway from Ashland to Central Point.

We encourage everyone who uses the trail or cares about the Greenway to get involved. For more information contact Jackson County Parks at bcgvolunteer@jacksoncountyor.gov or (541) 774-6242.
