Oregon Revised Statutes establish specific requirements and procedures that you, as well as the Sheriff's Office, must perform prior to issuance of a CHL (Concealed Handgun License). This information provided is designed to assist your understanding of the law and to facilitate your application process. To qualify for a CHL, you must:

1. Be at least 21 years of age.
2. Submit a completed application.
3. Be a U.S. citizen or have proof of application with the intent to become a citizen.
4. Reside, own property/business or pay taxes in Jackson County.
5. Provide documentation that demonstrates that you have taken an approved handgun safety course.  See application for approved options.
6. Never have been convicted of a disqualifying crime of domestic violence.
7. Never have been convicted of a felony.
8. Not have been convicted of a misdemeanor in the last four years.
9. Not be a registered sex offender.
10. Not have been convicted of any crime involving a controlled substance.
11. Not have any outstanding warrants for your arrest.
12. Not subject to a current stalking order or restraining order.
13. Pay appropriate fees. All payments are non-refundable.
14. Pass a background check conducted by the Sheriff's Office.
